Mietta, unfortunately that's the way it works. How to get an audition - sign up for the newsletters out there (there are some free ones, but most are paid), go to classes, go to shows, talk to people... Auditions are hard to come by even by those in the know. A good few places: QuietonSet.com.au, Arts Hub, (this site), etc. Check out local theatre companies websites. My best suggestion is to go to St Martins and do some classes there; very popular, and will help you a lot. Undertake some classes offered by other local theatre companies, such as Red Stitch. Go and volunteer at some festivals, for some companies/venues, or do some work experience (Arena Theatre Co. and the MTC always offer this). Audition for 'indie' films - there's lots around always seeking volunteers, especially for extras roles. Lots of local uni's do filming, and plenty of them ask for volunteers. TV is always harder to get into, so the above will help you a lot. Find auditions the way everyone else does.. by looking and researching. Got a fav company? Then ask them when/if they hold auditions. Read the auditions on this site. Ask friends to pass along info. Sadly, most of the auditions are often done through agents, and while it's not the only option, at your age it's probably your best option. Doing your research will pay off, especially if you sign up for as many news/auditions/jobs/etc. services you can. I used to get about four or five different news bulletins every day (until my email overflowed!) which all helped. Even ones from other theatre people, letting me know what their new project was - a good way to find out about other roles. Research also means learning about things like: agents and what to expect. Labrug (one of the members on this site) wrote and posted an excellent intro (search for his name, it should come up) on agents. You should definitely start by reading up about agents from MEAA, the actors union. You can find them at www.alliance.org.au. You should also learn about other things, like contracts. As FC said, you should not be paying an agent. An agent will take a commission. Please read all the other threads about the agents/scam issues on this site. Nobody is criticising you, but unfortunately, there are heaps of other posts just like this, and we often have to answer them all the same way. I'm Melbourne-based, so if you want some specific info on where to look, feel free to email me or post your questions on this site. I'm not an actor, but I can very well give you some clues as to where find some info. (I'd also advise not to post your mobile phone. There are some odd people out there who would take advantage of it) Sticky Apple Legs www.freewebs.com/stickyapplelegs Puppets in Melbourne www.thepromptcopy.com/pip
