will people please stop advertising themselfs on the forums

I have to agree with David. There are very limited places one can advertise oneself in the arts world. Especially online, and especially online for Australia. The fact of the matter is that this site is the top 10 in Aussie arts sites (see the Hitwise logos!), and this site comes up the most in Australian theatre searches. What's more, most people know about this site in the industry, whereas they might not know about other, smaller sites. Therefore, this makes a perfect place to advertise yourself. You have to remember that advertising yourself isn't just about posting 'I need work'... it's about adding signatures to your post, advertising your new company with an audition, promoting other services that might interest theatre people. I have a feeling you may be more commenting on the regular and annoying posts from young people, naive in thinking that leaving a 'Please hire me, I've wanted to be an actress since I wqas 2 years old, I have no experience, but want to be paid' post will get them work. Yes, these are annoying, but we have no right to stop anyone from posting anything on this site. The best we can do is moderate (see Labrug's thread on voting!), advise, and ignore those posts that we don't want to read. Though I do agree to some extent. Perhaps the answer is more about creating a new thread for people to promote themselves; 'Theatre people', like the classifieds forums, can have threads for people seeking work. You should also remember that sometimes people post advertising themselves, and then someone else posts about how they were just about to advertise for a role - and saw the first post, and would that person be interested.
