This was in the recent Playlovers newsletter - too true !!

Critical behaviour
It is a sad day when one of the several no gooders out there amongst our theatrical world decide to get on Theatre Australia and other networks to just bad mouth and say negative things about a particular theatre, person, or show, etc.

Whilst everyone is still entitled to their opinion, what can possibly be gained by the negative, nasty and rude remarks left by the ‘unverified’... ????

Is it the no-gooders role to attempt to shut down a thriving voluntary thespian network?

What sort of an example is this critical behaviour showing our youth except possibly teaching them another meaning to ‘exit stage left’.

Community theatre has a duty to encourage, respect, guide and provide support and constructive criticism with an outcome for growth.

If you know someone that likes to behave in this unruly fashion, then please, encourage them to stop this anti thespian behaviour and show some respect.

After all – it’s all for the love!!

My point is: how can you

My point is: how can anyone possibly agree or disagree without knowing the context of the post/person the above is referring to? There are any number of reasons to how a controversial topic gets started, from trolls to misunderstood but well-meaning reviewers, to just plain rude people, to people who post under a pseudonym in order to defend themselves... Maybe these above people are one and the same to others, but I see clear differences in motivations - and the context is just as important. It's like quoting half a politician's answer to a question. Without hearing the other half, how can you know exactly what they meant? And this is how most of tabloid journalism is written... Also, how can we best help reduce the above, without knowing what exactly they are referring to? "If you know someone that likes to behave in this unruly fashion, then please, encourage them to stop this anti thespian behaviour and show some respect." How do we encourage them to stop? Do we moderate their posts? Do we ban them? Do we ridicule them - which would quite obviously only serve to ensure more disrespectful posts are made... Etc. Each case should be treated individually, not as a generalisation. Mini-monster puppets customised just for you! at Puppets in Melbourne
