This was in the recent Playlovers newsletter - too true !!

Critical behaviour
It is a sad day when one of the several no gooders out there amongst our theatrical world decide to get on Theatre Australia and other networks to just bad mouth and say negative things about a particular theatre, person, or show, etc.

Whilst everyone is still entitled to their opinion, what can possibly be gained by the negative, nasty and rude remarks left by the ‘unverified’... ????

Is it the no-gooders role to attempt to shut down a thriving voluntary thespian network?

What sort of an example is this critical behaviour showing our youth except possibly teaching them another meaning to ‘exit stage left’.

Community theatre has a duty to encourage, respect, guide and provide support and constructive criticism with an outcome for growth.

If you know someone that likes to behave in this unruly fashion, then please, encourage them to stop this anti thespian behaviour and show some respect.

After all – it’s all for the love!!

I know exactly what Playlovers and Melz are talking about here, because I've been witnessing it in several topics of discussion on this forum for some time now. How sad it is that my very first posting into the forum should be amid such disgraceful displays of vindictive and petulant mud-slinging. I log onto this site because I like to read interesting views expressed by fellow actors and theatre lovers. But what do I find instead, for example, in discussion about this year's Finley Awards? Endless sniping by pathetic, insignificant individuals hiding behind pseudonyms and publicly exhibiting their inadequacy by being unable to spell and sensibly construct sentences, and having no understanding of grammar or the correct use of punctuation. I make special mention of the illiteracy displayed by these nonentities because it reinforces the impression of low intelligence that their bile-laden invective engenders. I have now attended two Finley Award ceremonies and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I've made many friends through my involvement in community theatre and revel in the opportunity that such an event offers to catch up with some of them. I'm both satisfyingly entertained and deeply moved by witnessing performers 'giving it their all' in the featured production excerpts, and I'm both grateful and humbled by the efforts made by the show's organisers to make the night the best it can possibly be. I am not aware of any cliques (or, indeed, 'clicks') that are populated by an elitist few, self-indulgently patting each others' backs. I see no evidence of such behaviour in the people I encounter from one production to another and I certainly have seen no evidence of it in the two Finley Awards ceremonies that I've attended. In my view, all recipients of awards are richly deserving of such and I convey my heartfelt congratulations to all of them. I shall be attending the next Finley Awards and the next ones after that for many years to come. A small group of dedicated individuals expend an enormous amount of effort for this one night of the year which is dedicated to the camaraderie and good fellowship that we all enjoy so much by being involved in community theatre, and they deserve not only our support, but also our gratitude. In closing, I blow a huge raspberry to all of those miserable souls who complained, accused, threw tantrums and generally denigrated the unselfish efforts of good people in the lead-up to and aftermath of this year's Finleys. And, indeed, to all of those who hide behind their silly little aliases and criticise for the sake of criticism itself, apparently unable to find anything nice to say. May you all forever remain pathetic, insignificant nonentities. As Jimmy Durante would say, I expect THAT to do no good, but there it is . . . and you can all see my name unashamedly displayed.
