I saw My Fair Lady at the Regal last night. It was wonderful, and truly professional. The set was amazing. The costumes were amazing! Higgins was amazing (we think far better than Rex Harrison) in fact it was all pretty amazing! ;)
Katja Webb was lovely, such a sensitive portrayal, completely fantastic - especially after the transformation. I think it must be pretty hard to get Eliza just right.. and she certainly managed it. As for her voice, absolutely beautiful.
Alan Needham, as aforementioned a fabulous Higgins. He had it down to a "t" we couldn't say enough about him! John Stoneham was also a great Pickering! Arthur Goad as Arthur Doolittle also incredible, very funny, great timing. In fact I think these three men in particular were simply "made for the parts!"
Also Vincent, a perfect Freddy. Very expressive, wonderful voice!
Oh what else...? I could go on and on! Mrs Pearce was great and the servants chorus sounded wonderful. Um, crowd scenes were great. The Ball, terrific. Must make special mention of Ascot. The audience burst into applause as soon as the curtain went up, it was just 'looked' so remarkable.
I must just stress once again the costumes and set were just beyond belief.
Of course note must go to Neroli Burton and Justin Freind for their direction. The "Orchestra of Dreanms" was brilliant.
So yes, I should leave it there before getting carried away. Anyone who can should really make an effort to see this show!
Thou paunchy clay-brained wagtail!
