No one can argue that Perth is the greatest place in the world to live. The relaxed, downbeat lifestyle attracts all but the most ardent anal retentives. Given half the chance, I'm sure most of us would spend all our time in boardshorts & bathers. Unfortunately, we're often constrained by the vagaries of fashion and the vicissitudes of the weather. Have you, like Dean Schulze, ever wished you could spend July in a bikini?

Well wish no more! Blak Yak Theatre is proud to announce auditions (on May 4) for our next production, "Psycho Beach Party." A comic parody of 1960s beach movies and horror movies, "Psycho Beach Party" started life as a stageplay in the '80s, spawning an underground cult movie starring Thomas Gibson (Dharma & Greg), Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under).

I know this gets said a lot, but it's certainly true in this case. As I said at the start, Psycho Beach Party started life as a stageplay (tentatively titled Gidget Goes Psycho), THEN it was turned into a movie.

The movie had its moments, but it's known moreso for who's in it, rather than the movie itself. I'll admit I was worried until Nick gave me the script and I had a damn good laugh. Yep, the plot's almost totally different and it concentrates on the core characters rather than the peripherals introduced in the movie. No cross-dressing cops. No Swedish murderers. Just fun, beach and bikinis.

Thanks to everyone who's taking such an interest. Glad we can still stir up a bit of a controversy.
