Um, yes...it's a completely different person, with a different name. Richard Bach wrote 'Jonathon Livingston Seagull', along with several other fine books...and apparently was quite appalled at the treatment his publishing company did when they turned it into that dodgy film. If you think Neil Diamond's soundtrack is bad (I actually don't mind it, although it's mind-numbingly repetitive), whatever you do, DON'T bother with the film.
But DO read the book; also 'Illusions - The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah', 'One', and 'The Bridge Across Forever'.
