Re: Stepping Out
Hi Christine,
The programme says "Richard Harris". I don't know if that's the same Richard Harris who sang the soggy cake song and starred in "Harry Potter", but hopefully that helps!

Re: Soggy Cakes and Choreography
I should know the answer to this one having directed a one-acter by RH. But all my research proved inconclusive.
In the whole 5 minutes I spent researching the web I only got more confused (Can you reasearch anything on the web in 5 minutes. It takes that long for the search engine to spit out your first 3,429,172 possibilitites. Bring back the encyclopaedia I say.)
imdb.com has two major listings for a "Richard Harris" The first seems to have done a lot of acting with a dabble at screenplays. The second has done a lot of writing but no acting. Neither contained a cross reference to the other. In all the bios on the actor there is no mention made of his play writing skills. I couldn't find a bio on the writer.
The Samuel French catalogue lists about 8 plays by a Richard Harris. I doubt that the actor would have time to write plays considering his legendary bedroom prowess and seemingly interminable drinking sessions with mates Oliver Reed & Richard Burton.
Given that both "Richard" and "Harris" are common names I feel it is highly likely that the author and the actor are NOT the one and same person.

Richard Harris's Biography
Richard harris's biography is at http://us.imdb.com/Bio?Harris,+Richard and it does state that he sang in the rain with his cake as well as didi a lot of acting.

Re: Richard Harris
I seem to recall that a 'Richard Harris' wrote the book used for the film 'Jonathan Livingstone Seagull', words and music by Neil Diamond. (and very special words they are too!)
Is this another person I wonder?

Re: Richard Harris
So the results are inconclusive then. The play was written by some unknown playwright of that name or from that drunken Irish bastard from 'Camelot'!

Seagulls!
That would be Richard Bach not Richard Harris...

Um, yes...it's a completely different person, with a different name. Richard Bach wrote 'Jonathon Livingston Seagull', along with several other fine books...and apparently was quite appalled at the treatment his publishing company did when they turned it into that dodgy film. If you think Neil Diamond's soundtrack is bad (I actually don't mind it, although it's mind-numbingly repetitive), whatever you do, DON'T bother with the film.
But DO read the book; also 'Illusions - The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah', 'One', and 'The Bridge Across Forever'.

How embarrassing!
Many of my books are in still in storage boxes in the garage including 'Jonathan Livingstone Seagull', which I really enjoyed and yes, for reasons unknown, I did get the author's name wrong.
I love Neil Diamond's words from the soundtrack ("Lost on a painted sky, where the clouds are hung for the poet's eye") and I have seen the film and yukkk.

Re: Richard Harris's Biography
He did a lot of acting or drinking (or both)?
His biography doesn't mention anything about him writing plays, though. In fact, the IMDB lists several Richard Harrises, including:
1. Actor ("Harry Potter"), singer (Soggy Cake Song), drunkard
2. Writer ("Stepping Out", 1960s TV series "The Saint" and "The Avengers")
3. Editor ("Titanic", "True Lies", "T2")
