certain ass face directors
Mon, 9 Apr 2001, 12:47 pmwhen certain people audition for certain plays and they are not cast they still expect to receive a courtesy call from the director. manners go a long way, especially for super sensitive and shaky performers

Are you all talking about professional theatre or amateur? If the former then all I can say is "My God. What business do you think you are involved in?" It has nothing to do with courtesy or anything else. It has to do with...if you're not good enough I don't have time to waste calling you up afterwards and telling you. I auditioned for the first Aus casting of Cats. I didn't get past the first chorus and then "thank you." You didn't hear me crying to the producers "why, why why?" It's always been this way. If you don't like it then do things your way but don't expect the culture to change to suit you because that's the way it is and always will be.
Personally I tell people that if you don't hear from me then chances are you won't and not to sit by the phone waiting. Not for that role, anyway. But I always keep people in mind for other plays and I only call people back after their second audition and that suits me and them.
Now if talking about amateur theatre well, it's anybody's guess. Maybe it's all about niceness these days. I wouldn't know having not worked in that area for about 18 years and becoming fed up with people deluded about their own abilities and importance in the grand scheme of things.
And as for "ass-faced directors"...look only to the possibly [thought i could be wrong] talentless twirp who didn't get a role and started this discussion in the first place. But well done anyway. We'll let you know.
My god I have too much time on my hands this weekend. I hate Easter.
