OK I know its a bit early but I am already starting to stress. Next year as part of The TEE Drama course for my practical part I have to perform a scripted monologue and make up my own performance. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good monologue I could use or any ideas I could elaborate on for my one man performance. I am a girl by the way.

oooh, i know something about this, i had the same problem two years ago. i don't know if i can help you with your self-devised monologue, though, although if you need anything just let me know and i'll do what i can. for the scripted one, there are a few books on monologues, but i think the best ones are "masterclass" by dean carey - for modern monologues, and "soliloquy - the shakespeare monologues" - michael earley and phillippa keil so if you can find them they might help. they helped me with some of my auditions. i can't recommend specific pieces for you because i wouldn't know if it's the right one for you to perform, the only one that can do that is you. but there are some really powerful speeches by constace in shakespeare's "king john", also portia's "quality of mercy" speech (merchant of venice) - it could be either powerful or really, really nice and saintly, depends on how you play it, or there's a challenging one in juliet's nurse's speech in "romeo and Juliet" act 1 scene3, or mistress quickly - it's always challenging to play someone older (and personally i think it's more fun), anyway i hope i'm not confusing you. all the best in year 12.
