set construction
Wed, 4 Mar 2009, 12:22 pmDoes anyone know of a set construction company that they can recommend?
I already know of Plumb and Arts Workshop, are there any others of that level in Perth?
Perth once had a healthy
Sat, 7 Mar 2009, 12:28 pmPerth once had a healthy population of set building companies, most of which I've worked with at some time, like ME Scenery, Designs in Dimension, Staging Connections and of course Arts Workshop. Having been out of the industry around ten years now, about all I can suggest is to let your fingers do the walking - through the Yellow Pages.
You might consider some of the display and exhibition companies such as Advans or Barrett Displays. They don't necessarily specialise in theatre stage sets, but they are (or used to be) conversant with construction techniques and would sometimes take on such work. Vaughan Emery at Corporate Theatre was talking about setting up a construction workshop ten years ago (he offered me a job), but whether or not it came to fruition, or indeed whether they are still in business, I don't know.
So yes, try the Yellow Pages. It can't hurt!
Cheers,
Tim.
Edit: I should add a warning that they won't come cheaply, if cost is an issue for you. You may find that Plum or Arts Workshop may be the only viable options for you after all.
