WAAPA Music Theatre Audition
Sun, 19 Nov 2006, 08:22 pmHi all
I'm confused :S I have been preparing for my WAAPA MT audition by 'performing' my songs as if I were in a production of the musicals...one in particular with quite a bit of movement...using a chair etc. My friend told me today, however, that there is an X on the floor which you are supposed to stand on, and that - although you can move slightly - you are primarily to simply sing with expression.
Can anyone clear this up for me - particularly those with first-hand experience - because I am extremely confused...and worried :S
I feel like a bit strange asking this, but I will feel even more strange if I 'perform' my songs at my audition to some very confused auditioners that expect me to stand on an X.
Thanks :)

As a Wappa grad, i've been though WAAPA auditions, I know the staff, i've seen many many many auditionees who are amazing not get in. 1st There are NO RULES when auditioning.. 2 contrasting songs can be 2 ballads if they contrast in period... belt/classical emotional range. etc This age debate is kinda annoying as well.. Disallusioned are u saying that the course should be filled with 25 year olds? The year will be made up of a mix of ages, experiences, vocal ranges, looks...And yes some people in the course have had a "charmed" life... others not so... The staff at Waapa atm know what they are doing... but they do make mistakes.. aka quota thing... ( oh my god they are human) it sound like to me that they were giving you encouragement!! It's a good thing!! I feel for this chick from SA, by the looks she's made some people very pissed off... trust me when i say that people at Waapa wont put up wiht an arrogant 1st year!! Neither will the staff! oh and BEN_dd a list will come to you via caberet club....well the president anyway.. if your part of the BA... Thanks and good luck to people auditioning next year!
