WAAPA Music Theatre Audition
Sun, 19 Nov 2006, 08:22 pmHi all
I'm confused :S I have been preparing for my WAAPA MT audition by 'performing' my songs as if I were in a production of the musicals...one in particular with quite a bit of movement...using a chair etc. My friend told me today, however, that there is an X on the floor which you are supposed to stand on, and that - although you can move slightly - you are primarily to simply sing with expression.
Can anyone clear this up for me - particularly those with first-hand experience - because I am extremely confused...and worried :S
I feel like a bit strange asking this, but I will feel even more strange if I 'perform' my songs at my audition to some very confused auditioners that expect me to stand on an X.
Thanks :)

Hey guys.
I auditioned this year for the MT course at WAAPA and didn't get in. I think, however, that there is a time for feeling upset, agrovated or even angry about such issues but at least for me there is a time, which personally has passed, that calls us to stop worrying about the past! In all seriousness, in order to not only "make it" in the profession of performing but to do YOUR BEST (which is always the best you can do) it all comes down to you. The weight is on your shoulders. Sure, there are always going to be variables that are, quite simply out of your control. What I am saying is that it is within mine and your control to eliminate these variables by first acknowledging them followed by not giving them any importance in your life. What I try to do (I say 'try' because believe me, I constantly screw it up or forget) is to do just that. By not granting such essentially peripheraln issues any gravity you deem them another meaningless fact in your life - in deed, they are facts but completely irrelevant ones (of which there are billions of others!).
So, let us all get over it and move on. In truth all we can do is this.
Time won't stop for us to catch up.
