Hey everyone!

I saw Saturday Night Fever last night and it was an awesome show with fantastic dance numbers and Bee Gee's hits, the only down side being that there was hardly a plot but hey its all about the dancing!

The leads were amazing, particulary Adam-jon Fiorentino, who carried the show in the role of Tony Manero and Dale Pengelly was hilarious in the comedic role of disco DJ Monty!

I wont say anymore, you just have to see it. The show is in preview season until the Jan 5th which means all tockets r $65, so cheap for a show so good!

i thought it was ok...

i enjoyed the pretty lights and the dancing, but some of the chorus and leads seem to lack energy in there numbers. The numbers also seemed to be extremley un-polished which, in my opinion, shouldnt really hav happened since they have now been touring the show for a very long time. Technique is also an issue that i would address, but that would just be nit-picking.

also something that the leads should have had a grasp on was there accents... soooo many times did i hear the leads go from one side of america to the other, and then drop back into there aussie accents. again, nit-picking, so i'll stop.

i saw the show twice, and both times during Stephanie's solo, she went out of key quite a few times... i doubt this is coz of nerves coz she's performed the song a lot of times, and she wasnt doin any dancing so she couldnt blame it on lack of breath control, so i dont know what went wrong but it seemed it wasnt as good as it could of been.

also the lack of plot and story meant that you didnt really feel for the characters, it seemed they tried to make up for this with solo ballads (If I Cant Have You, and Tragedy) but it just didnt seem to work, the only one i'd say it did work was for Tony Manero (Immortality) but Adam Jon-Fiorentino had excellent stage prescense.

Either way i thought it was an ok musical... i just think the story let it down, and they relied too heavily on the dance numbers to bring up the excitement, but the lack of energy brought it back down to square one.

still, if u wanna go to the theatre just to hav a squizz at some spunks dancing and some awesome effects, definately hav a look... but if ur lookin for quality and a half way decent story line, look else wear...

but hey, major musicals in perth are a rarity, so snap up the experience whilst u can.

cheers all!
