The French essayist, Michel de Montaigne described these vexatious cowards rather well, some 500 years before the internet allowed them to spawn, writing;

No man is exempt from saying silly things; the mischief is to say them deliberately.

Peter, as I've not long ago

Peter, as I've not long ago said to Daniel, that isn't what it looks like. I consider both you and Greg as valued friends, and I fully realise that I risk endangering that relationship by trying to rub out that line you both appear to have drawn in the sand between you. I know we haven't heard from Greg yet (although I'm sure we will!), but please, will BOTH of you make a sincere effort to bury the hatchet? This tit-for-tat animosity has been going on for too long now and it's getting distinctly uncomfortable for your mutual friends looking on in guarded silence. Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but if so, then I'm not alone. Alright, so perhaps the pair of you will never be best mates, but the day will surely come when you'll both turn up for the same audition or some social event or other, and none of those mutual friends will want to associate with either of you, through sheer embarrassment for being seen to favour one or the other. I hope we're still friends after I've said this - ALL of us . . . and Daniel, that includes you too.
