The French essayist, Michel de Montaigne described these vexatious cowards rather well, some 500 years before the internet allowed them to spawn, writing;

No man is exempt from saying silly things; the mischief is to say them deliberately.

Just to set the record

Just to set the record straight, Daniel and I have privately sorted things out and I think we can safely assume that we can proceed from here on as mutually respectful friends. As for the other matter, I still don't know if all I've achieved is to make myself look foolish and/or whether it might have been better to have left well alone. Time will tell, I suppose. We are ALL capable of making poor decisions, whether they be in the form of ill-chosen comments or whether they be feelings of indignation at perceived insult where none was intended. Daniel and I have just proved, to each other at least, that it really isn't all that difficult to settle differences by civilised dialogue and reasoning. I hope that our two aggrieved parties will agree, some time soon, to the same conclusion. They may even find that they actually quite like each other.
