Hello fellow and other worldly thespians, I'm a Canadian actor that has been intriqued by Australia for quite a long time. Everything that I hear about Australia is fantastic. Living, the landscape, temperature, the people. So I wanted to ask you guys how is the work in the film and theatre industry? I heard that it was really vibrant? Is that true? At the moment I am between agents, but that being said I am mainly interested is independent films. Any thoughts or your take on what the over all community is like would be appreciated. and thank you in advance.

To play Devil's Advocate, I'd question the statement 'As for the industry here... well, it's not that great.'

I'd say it's about as good / bad as anywhere else. Sure it's not London or Las Vegas, but I feel that no matter where you go, if you know where to look, you can always find the culture, and that the opportunities are there. This also means that the competition is there also.

Melbourne is considered by most as the Cultural Centre of Australia yet I would be tempted to say that other capitals are making good headway to challenge Melb. For example, a recent flood of government Funding has seen a swelling in Perth Film, TV and Theatre, both in terms of activity and awareness.

It depends very much on your point of view, as everything does. I personally feel that the industry is very much alive and thriving, even given the current economical climate.
