Aussie TV Under Threat
Thu, 5 Apr 2001, 02:38 pmI recently received some upsetting news from the MEAA and have posted this news to my web site. You can find it here...

This comes at a time where the world is coming to Australia to make their movies. Do we really want to open the door and let the world walk right over us?
Regards All
Jeff.

Jeff, I agree with you that any 'looser' agreements with the US would impact very badly on Australia, and Australian Television makers. It's already becoming increasingly difficult to see any genuine Aussie ideas on screen because of the number of US and UK clones of so-called 'successful series'. Like any business, TV Networks direct their efforts towards annual profits and it doesn't require many accountancy skills to see how a Network would justify buying cheap american shows rather than funding local production. I will be following your suggestion to make representations to Federal MP's and recommend others follow suit. Good luck, Kaye B
