What about the teens?
Sun, 5 June 2005, 10:05 pmHello,
Looking through this site, i see alot of auditions for older people, but none for the more younger side of actors, when you get into the real world people want expericence and how do you get that if you dont have the chance. I personally think its very harsh, I can understand the school bounderiies but there are school holidays, and theres still nothing, and Im not talking workshops, im talking productions and drama groups.
Regards
Abby

Hello Abz
Most amateur theatre groups are made up of people who do it for the love of the role, be it on stage or back stage, and the response of the audience.
The better job they do, the better response from the audience and so it goes in cycles.
There is a lot of work involved in starting and keeping a successful amateur theartre group going and they are usually looking inwards to se how they are performing so do not look to take on additional roles such as a youth theatre section.
But this is their choice and in most cases will not change.
However there are a few theatres that run youth theatre sections, Stirling in one from memory and a search using the Search Site will find others. like WAYTC and Black Swan ?
Most young roles will be in pantomines which tend to be at the end of the year. There will be audition notices for these but if you want to be in one, look up the theatre groups that do pantomines and contact them direct to express your interest in being involved. This is being proactive about being in theatre instead of being reactive.
There are commercial schools that do shows involving youth members such as WACPA who have just done Joseph at The Regal, but they make a living from theatre so you will have to pay fees.
You can also get a group of friends together and start your own theatre group through a school which will provide the resources you need which will allow you to create your own market.
So there are teen roles but you have to go digging for them or create them.
Hope this helps you get a role.
