Hello,
Looking through this site, i see alot of auditions for older people, but none for the more younger side of actors, when you get into the real world people want expericence and how do you get that if you dont have the chance. I personally think its very harsh, I can understand the school bounderiies but there are school holidays, and theres still nothing, and Im not talking workshops, im talking productions and drama groups.
Regards
Abby

Hello Abz

Most amateur theatre groups are made up of people who do it for the love of the role, be it on stage or back stage, and the response of the audience.

The better job they do, the better response from the audience and so it goes in cycles.

There is a lot of work involved in starting and keeping a successful amateur theartre group going and they are usually looking inwards to se how they are performing so do not look to take on additional roles such as a youth theatre section.

But this is their choice and in most cases will not change.

However there are a few theatres that run youth theatre sections, Stirling in one from memory and a search using the Search Site will find others. like WAYTC and Black Swan ?

Most young roles will be in pantomines which tend to be at the end of the year. There will be audition notices for these but if you want to be in one, look up the theatre groups that do pantomines and contact them direct to express your interest in being involved. This is being proactive about being in theatre instead of being reactive.

There are commercial schools that do shows involving youth members such as WACPA who have just done Joseph at The Regal, but they make a living from theatre so you will have to pay fees.

You can also get a group of friends together and start your own theatre group through a school which will provide the resources you need which will allow you to create your own market.

So there are teen roles but you have to go digging for them or create them.

Hope this helps you get a role.

I know several university student filmmakers called for teens for some of their films on this site and were incredibly frustrated by the amount of teens who said they'd turn up and then didn't, or would cancel at the last minute.

Keep an eye on the auditions section in the bottom right - read each notice; you'd be surprised how often a teen is needed. And you'd be just as surprised as to how many directors get frustrated when no teens bother to audition.

Did you see this post from earlier in the year? They're not slaves to the age bracket mentioned, so perhaps you should drop them a line? And e-mailing or calling the director is probably the best.

hello everyone!

there is a new amateur youth theatre company, western suburbs youth theatre company, in WA requiring enthusiastic volunteers and new faces! we'd really like to hear from anybody aged from 18-25 (although this is just an indicator and not strict) males and females who are interested in getting involved in any aspect of theatre. we're a fun and energetic group aiming to produce quality youth theatre in an enjoyable environment.

we operate from nedlands, usually rehearse on the weekends and perform in mosman park. we aim to produce two major productions a year with several smaller plays performed in the intervals.

WSYTC has a membership of about twenty enthusiastic volunteers so this would be a great opportunity for anybody wanting to get really involved!

email me: square_cookie@hotmail.com to be added to the mailing list and notified of any future auditions or activities.

thanks!

Quite frankly I think you're complaining about nothing. Australia has parts for teens up the wazoo, a lot of them just want the work to come to them. I'm busting chops tonight so don't get offended, I just don't think you're looking hard enough. By the by, I'm a teen, and I can always find an audition somewhere....

Re: What about the teens?

Hi Abby, and all the other teenagers out there

I've been doing community/local theatre for 6 years now (still a relative new comer I suppose) all over WA and I would say that 90% of the shows I have been in had a lot of teenagers in the cast. When they were not in the cast, often they were involved behind the scenes.

There may be not be lead roles for teenagers in every production, but there is often many minor roles, or fun chorus work to be found. If you are really serious about pursuing acting, you may need to be prepared to start in the chorus of a musical, a bit part or even helping behind the scenes. Go to auditions for shows in your local area, see whats out there. Every time I go to the auditions section of this site, I see a huge number of auditions listed. Very few of these have an age restriction on them. So start auditioning and put your self out there...as nice as it is to dream about waiting until someone 'discovers' you, the reality is that you need to put in the hard work...be prepared to go to auditions, and then rehearsals 3-4 times a week.

Anyway, end of lecture :) Good luck. The parts are out there, if you are willing to look and compete for them.
