Touring Productions
Sun, 14 May 2000, 03:50 pmSome associates and I have recently formed a theatre company and are hoping to do a 12 week tour of the East Coast of Australia next year. This is the first tour that any of us have undertaken. I am seeking advice from producers and techs who have been down this road before. What is the best way to approach the theatres that you are interested in performing in. Best grants available? Has anyone applied for grants before..any tips? Did anyone break even undertaking such an excercise?

Are you based in the eastern states?
Country Arts offers some support for touring here in Western Australia:
There may be similar bodies in each state. If you haven't already, my first contact would be the relevant state funding body and of course the Australia Council.
Break even? I'm sure people do. My unfunded touring experiences have been spiritually if not fiscally rewarding. We paid the bills and managed to pay ourselves fairly well... but we were only away for a few days, 12 weeks is a long time. Good luck!
