Can anyone guide me in gaining certification in theatre and lighting rigging for amateur type productions in the Perth metro area - I am not looking at full time training as this is for a hobby situation not career.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Ashbee.
Rigging is a federal assessment, You cannot "rig" unless you have the qualifications, nor should you be put into such a situation by any employer.
Some lighting courses do touch on rigging, but it does not gain any sort of qualification to be able to rig.
If you are wanting to do rigging, you must first obtain your dogging, then basic, and then intermediate rigging.
As much as most rigging courses throughout australia are construction based, there is a reason for this, apparently the entertainment industry only make up 5% of the building industry and therefore they cannot regulate us as our own industry.
As much as I say this Showtech do run the federal courses, yes you still need to work with a crane fo some of the modules, but the rest is related to our industry, yes we use hoists, yes we use truss.
