Money
Wed, 12 May 2004, 05:25 pmHi,
I am very interested in getting into the buissness, I have recently handed in my application for the stage managment course in WAAPA. However, no one can give me a straight answer on the avarage earning of a SM. If anyone could e-mail me and tell me the general wages for this occupation it would be much appreciated. I do realise payment hanges from show to show, but on avarage.
Mitch.

You'd be best contacting the union, (Media Entertainment Arts Alliance) who'd be able to give you an indicative figure, perhaps even broken down by state.
I can say, from people I've known who've gone through that course, above-average stage managers who are multi-skilled (lighting, SFX, pyro) are in demand and rarely out of work. They also get remarkable travel opportunities presented on occasion.
I believe you'd be given an excellent background in all these areas at the WAAPA.
Good luck.
Warmly,
Jason
