Hello there
I am close to a 17 years old studant and have done almost to 2 years of work in the theatre at my school, not only have i worked on school functions which include running school assemblys, various play and performances, music concerts and an HSC exam, but also a number of dance schools and academys, musicals and dramatic performances.

My main training has been towards lighting operation and the electrics side of the theatre at the school, but I have also go my hands into Flying, stage management and a little sound work.

What i'm really looking for is career advise and work for the future. If anyone could offer their opinion or advise i'd be very grateful.

i'm quite keen, and dont mind getting my hands dirty. I'm also interested in getting my skills up even further and dont mind working in my school holidays, anyone willing to offer a part time/ full time job in the Sydney metro area as an experience for me, i'd jump at the chance.
If you can offer any help, advise or want more information about me, please email me at: cpooge@hotmail.com

Also don't forget that there is also the Centre for Performing Arts. I graduated last year, and since then have worked stage management and production management positions such as "The Sound of Music", Womadelaide, Cabaret Festival and Restless Dance Company, and did 10 weeks work placements with Sydney Dance Company and the Adelaide Festival 2000.

The CPA course has an SM component, but you can also train in sound, lighting, staging, costume, props and set construction. They also have a huge new building which opened this year, which has fantastic new facilities.

The best advice I can give (as with the others) is make contacts. The CPA is a great place to do that, and once you get a couple of jobs, people you don't know will start calling you up for more! (happened to me a couple of days ago!)

Good luck and don't give up!
