Re: Professional Vs Amateur

I'm not an actor but I am a Lighting Designer and Production Manager. I have recently returned to Oz after 10 years in the UK. I'm a professional, i.e I earn the largets proportion of my income from the performing arts I am a member of MEAA etc. I agree entirely that Professional versus amatuer is largely attitude with one major other point. When appearing in or designing shows is your bread and butter you cannot choose to do them. Well, not always. The rent must be paid food must be bought. Incidently, i recently lit a production of 42nd Street gratis for an amatuer company because I love the show. Hey Ho.
