WAAPA and NIDA are not the be all and end all of MT training. My Gosh if you have the talent you will get on anywhere. My friend did the cert course at WAAPA a few years ago then auditioned for the BA for a couple of years, didnt get in, went to London and has now appeared in many musicals in the West End and played Velma in Chicago for 2 seasons. Isnt that what you do the BA for, to get these parts in musicals and she did this without a BA. Yes for the chance to appear on Broadway or the West End that would be the ultimate. You dont need to do a BA to achieve this, you need a good singing teacher and guts to go get it. (unless you want to be a MT teacher) Sometimes I think that these so called 'best institutuions' ( and please Im not knocking them) are not what everyone is looking for. A piece of paper saying BA completed in Aust can mean diddly shit in London. Talent is what they are looking for and experience in theatre productions. The time spent on a 3 year BA could mean 3 years of theatre performance and experience missed out on.
