Show: 'inside'
company: WA fringe/ Perth Workers Theatre
Subi Theatre Centre, Perth, 11 Aug.

I won't give a full review of this show because I don't really have the time, but I wanted to plug it if I could. I went into Subi TC last night having no idea what to expect, and emerged quite stunned - three of Perth's finest in a brilliantly unsettling new play, directed by arguably Perth's premier director, Marcelle Schmitz, and there were only 8 people in the audience. Do yourself a favour and go and see some wonderful new theatre, done absolute justice by a typically measured and moving (and at the same time unnerving) performance from Luke Hewitt, complemented by Jodi Buzza's lovely stage presence and George Shevstov's brilliant character turn as a couch-ridden old man looking for attention in his waning years.

This show deserves far better audiences than were in last night - perhaps the advertising has not been strong enough (I have heard virtually nothing about the show and went only because a friend from BOCS suggested it) - but nevertheless, get along to the Subi Theatre Centre for a thought-provoking and highly original evening. Then go and see Art the next night. That's good too.

Cheers,
Toby

PS - 'Othello v. Titus' is remounted this week at Kulcha in Freo. We sold out last year at the Blue Room and plenty of people were upset they missed out - but there are only 2 nights to catch is again, so don't miss out... Mademoiselle Mouse, feel free to come along and gain your reviewing revenge and bag me to high heaven. And guess what? I won't care.

and the Naomi @ the West would appear to agree

It's been my experience that some playwrights - not by any means, Ian - are understandably choosy about where their work plays. Opportunities to get a fully funded new play off the ground in Perth are very limited.

Does anyone know the season details? Why aren't they up on the site???

Cheers
Grant
