Hey!

LASALLE-SIA just had their auditions for the locals here in Singapore for the 2006 intake of B.A of Acting (Hons) and B.A of Musical Theatre (Hons) which starts in July.

LASALLE-SIA held auditions for Australia in November last year and now that successful applicants have had time to decide whether to come...I'm curious to know if anyone on here knows of anyone coming to Singapore in 2006.

We have a big Aussie contingent in First year already and we're always curious to see who else is coming over from Oz...if u have any news, let us know!

Cheers,

Crispy.

i probably shouldn't post this because the people i know who have gotten into the course has skewed my judgement of it and my opinion isn't as objective as it could be but hey free specch and all!

there are a lot of new courses "popping up" recently it seems and i think the best advice any of us could recieve (as an applicant to a few of these) is to do your research! don't be naive people!!! for every person in the business who sincerly wants to help and nurture and give aussie talent a shot there is someone out there who is in it for the almighty dollar... now it may seem contradictory that people are asking about the courses trying to do research here and i'm telling them to do exactly what they are doing but you need to look at more than a website and a few people's (for the most part biased) opinion. go to the school grounds if you can, get a list of teachers and research them, go to your dance school and ask what people have heard, ask ex pupils their opinions, and god forbid you ring the people up and see if you can talk to them in person (for places such as Lasalle this may not be viable but if you go to an audition ASK QUESTIONS!!!)

i know of one course whose name i won't mention, that actually advertised having teachers (extremely good ones at that!) that they didn't have, ( i know this through personal contact with one of the teachers involved) they charged extortionate fees for pathetic CONTACT hours, and yes it is CONTACT hours you should be looking for because anyone can send you home with a book and say "learn this"! and have now employed a teacher who is about as qualified to fly a 747 as they are to teach. (yes i have a personal opinion so this is a somewhat tainted and perhaps exaggerated view but before you ask i would never again be associated with this person proffesionally)

now my opinion of lasalle as i stated earlier is a bit skewed because of certain pupils i know that have been accepted. although i know some absolutely amazing performers in the course aswell! from what i know the course is a bloody hard slog, it's not for the faint-hearted but i have heard that the dance is not as intensive as perhaps other institutions, the acting and general standard of the teachers is wonderful (again from what i have heard) and i believe they are almost into their new campus??? correct me if i am wrong! yet i come back to this years intake, i know of at least two students who are... well not of the standard that i expected to get in and i personally doubt that one of them will finish the course, (personal opinion!!!!!!!) simply because of their attitude. ANYWAY!

my point is, don't be naive... now i don't mean to scare anyone off, by no means do i want to dissude anyone from pursuing their dream and i am certainly not saying that universities (ie WAAPA and the like) are the ONLY ways to learn ( though they do have some credibility in an industry that is, let's face it, a bit unstable) heck their are plenty of people who don't even train in our industry! and on a personal note i am to attend one of these "new courses" this year! (more an more bias i hear you screaming!!! i know i know!)

my message is simply this... don't walk into this with your blinkers on... you wouldn't want to be taught english by someone who is two pages ahead of you in the study guide now ... would you?
