Hey!

LASALLE-SIA just had their auditions for the locals here in Singapore for the 2006 intake of B.A of Acting (Hons) and B.A of Musical Theatre (Hons) which starts in July.

LASALLE-SIA held auditions for Australia in November last year and now that successful applicants have had time to decide whether to come...I'm curious to know if anyone on here knows of anyone coming to Singapore in 2006.

We have a big Aussie contingent in First year already and we're always curious to see who else is coming over from Oz...if u have any news, let us know!

Cheers,

Crispy.

They say curiosity (sp?) killed the cat but in this case it seems it caused a catfight!

Personally, I don't care which school is better and I personally think nobody should be thinking about it either. NIDA/VCA/WAAPA/LASALLE/ENTERTAINMENT FACTORY/WHATEVER all have their own styles of training - some are more different than others while others are quite similar. You have to find which one suits you the most. That's what matters the most.

Unless you have gone to all the drama schools mentioned above, no one is really qualified to say which is better, and like I said before, it shouldn't even be an issue.

What has completely dumbfounded me most on this topic is how people have used successful applicants to measure the standards of a course....

"So-and-so got in which I didn't expect so that has changed my view of the course..."

I'm sorry, but were you on the audition panel with the teachers on the day? What do you think a Drama SCHOOL is for? It's meant to TEACH you and DEVELOP you into a BETTER and GOOD PERFORMER. What's the point of accepting a fantastically talented actor when they could be working in the industry already? I can only imagine how extensive the criteria would be for selection - they have to think about gender balances, personality balances, skill, talent, appearances, what the industry needs right now...a whole range. There is probably enough qualified students to fill 1st year drama school 10 times but they can only choose 16-20 each year for the class from over 1000 applicants. Give them some credit.

*sigh* I think the creation of more drama schools is an encouraging sign that our theatre industry might start thriving again - perhaps the influx of more professionally trained grads will kickstart the industry. Who knows. We shouldn't be bickering about who is better or whatever, we should be supporting each other.
