Finleys
Sun, 23 Jan 2005, 08:03 pmI find it very strange that the Finley Best Director award went to a play in which one of four adjudicators participated. If an adjudicator cannot direct a play, how can they be in one ???
This comment is made remembering that at the beginning of the year it was promised that all four adjudicators would see each play, so how can you objectively watch a play while you are in it!

Dear Cynic
An appropriate name.
At the beginning of the year , it was stated that all four adjudicators would try to see every play. If that was not possible, then it was promised that at least three of the four would see every play. This did happen.
It was also stated that if an adjudicator was in a play, that adjudicator would be automatically disqualified for any individual award, however the play could still be entered . It would surely be unfair to penalise all the other people involved in the production , simply because it had one of the adjudicators in it.
The criteria that we used to judge best director came straight from the Professional theatre equity judging system. It seems to work very nicely for them and , yes, they often have their own adjudicators in plays.
Thank you for the feedback.
If you wish to take this up with the ITA committee, I am sure that they would be delighted to listen to you.
