Total beginner - acting

Technically, there is nothing stopping you from auditioning for anything, Community or Professional Theatre, or even University/Academy courses. You will be going up against people whom have had more experience and some training, but that sometimes will count against them as much as your inexperience will. It all averages out really.
Helpful advice however would be to get some experience by engaging in Community Theatre where anyone is welcome. Find a local group and get involved. Also look at any local short courses available (and be careful of Cons) and get some training. Another tip, read up. There are plenty of texts out there so grab a few.
At the end of the day, you may think you are able/capable/ready but you really need to have an audience to test that. Doing Community Theatre will give you that. Doing courses will have you infront of instructors. You could also ask loyal and honest friends to tell you what they think.
There is no rule about who can or can't audition. I say, have a go.
