YEAR 12 TEE!
Mon, 27 Aug 2001, 05:18 pmHi i am a year 12 drrama studies student. I'm not too sure if I have wtitten in the correct area of the website but anyway I was wondering if anyone could help me with any suggestions for a monologue (up to 3 minutes) which would be good for the year 12 practical exam. And also any good ideas for the 5-7 minute solo performance??? Thanks.

Mon, 3 Sept 2001, 02:10 amIn my opinion, the best place to look first is a play called "Talking With..." by Jane Martin. It's also in "Jane Martin, Selected Plays" which I know for a fact is available at Alexander Lib. because I have it out at the moment. It's going back next week though.
Talking with is a series of womens monologues, all of them are great and theres a good variety in there as well, if you want something deep, theres 'marks', comical, there's 'french fries' etc. etc.
Whether you choose a piece from it or not, I definitely recommend reading it.
I'm sure you've been told this by someone, but whatever piece you choose, try to make it contrast your task 7, as it shows wider acting range etc. etc.
If you've got any more questions or anything like that just email me, I did the exam last year and I'm doing it again this year. (thats what you get for deciding to go to uni at the very last minute)
Anyway, try "Talking With..." the monologues are a bit too long for the exam, but they're very easy to edit if you need to.
hope I've been helpful,
