Hi! Sorry to sound like an annoying beginner, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience dealing with Catherine Poulton Management, and what they're like as an agency. They seem fairly good but I like to do my research thoroughly, and any inside knowledge would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance, Keira

Actor's Agents

Hello Keira, Points to you for doing your research on actor's agents. I assume that you are investigating this particular agency further because perhaps they have offered to represent you???? Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I have heard nothing about this agency and have had no personal experience with them. So I can't offer you any 'inside info'. If you are in the process of seeking an agent to represent you as an actor, then I guess a few general rules and realities apply which are are probably worth keeping in mind. Firstly, the industry is really tough. Lots of hopefuls and few jobs. No agency in the world can guarantee anyone of work - no matter how famous, talented or attractive you are. Watch out for agencies that 'promise' work or seem to be offering opportunites which just seem too good to be true. If it were that easy to get your face on television and get paid for it, then unemployed actors would be a thing of the past! Your agent is not your manager, promoter or cheer squad. Even if you successfully get an agent you will still need to personally put in the hard yards with regards to promoting and managing yourself. Updating your details with casting directors, Showcast and AT2 listings and keeping your 'hand in' training and improving your skills are your responsibility. Remember, agents can't guarantee you work or auditions. Green room gossip. Often one of the first 'ice breaker' conversations with other performers on set involves asking people who their agent is and if they are 'any good'. Apart from a few genuine charlatans, most agents offer pretty much the same opportunites for actors in a tough employment climate. Gossip travels fast in this industry. Be mindful of who you 'bag' in front of others! Good luck Keira and all the best with your agent search. Tulipa.
