Are regional films recommended?

To all those who may have been there before: I'm trying to get into all that I can this year for experience before going to a performing arts uni, there's a regional play being filmed where I live which I raised my hand to be involved in as an actor (or if all else fails - anything else). Before I jump in the deep end - are there any warning signals/alarm bells going off in anybody's heads? Just thought I'd check - cheers all. Chantel.
