i'm itching to direct... but where?

I've been involved in community theatre for quite a while now, my problem is that i don't have a 'local' group that i'm loyal to and involved with all the time. Being, for the most part of my time in theatre, one of the 'younger set', i've been showing up for auditions wherever there's been a part for me to play, and so now that i want to embark on a project as a director, i can't just turn to 'my' theatre group and say 'hey guys, wanna let me direct something?'

I've thought about doing it myself, i wouldn't have that much trouble finding actors, and i'm sure i could decide on a play after a few rounds of eenie meenie minee mo... But funding, and space, and techs, and sets, foh, and everything else that goes into a production, it's just too much of a big thing to do by myself for the first time.

Any advice from any of you in theatrenetland? Any shortages of willing directors?, or are there people lined up for the job round the block?

I'm living in north perth. i don't drive, but public transport (... the boyfriend and my parents) can get me to and from rehearsals and shows. i'll direct adults, kids and anyone in between, and i'd love to act as well.

i'm keeping my eyes open, but any responses here would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,
-bec

Lisa, I heard on the grape vine that you guys are planning to do "The Importance of Being Earnest" this year.

Are there any plans to reconsider this?

Roleystone are doing it in September, and we made our schedule public knowledge in August or September of last year.

Normally we don't really have that much of a problem with two clubs doing the same show in the same year, but we are both Hills clubs, after all...
