i'm itching to direct... but where?
Thu, 22 Jan 2004, 08:34 pmI've been involved in community theatre for quite a while now, my problem is that i don't have a 'local' group that i'm loyal to and involved with all the time. Being, for the most part of my time in theatre, one of the 'younger set', i've been showing up for auditions wherever there's been a part for me to play, and so now that i want to embark on a project as a director, i can't just turn to 'my' theatre group and say 'hey guys, wanna let me direct something?'
I've thought about doing it myself, i wouldn't have that much trouble finding actors, and i'm sure i could decide on a play after a few rounds of eenie meenie minee mo... But funding, and space, and techs, and sets, foh, and everything else that goes into a production, it's just too much of a big thing to do by myself for the first time.
Any advice from any of you in theatrenetland? Any shortages of willing directors?, or are there people lined up for the job round the block?
I'm living in north perth. i don't drive, but public transport (... the boyfriend and my parents) can get me to and from rehearsals and shows. i'll direct adults, kids and anyone in between, and i'd love to act as well.
i'm keeping my eyes open, but any responses here would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
-bec

Re: i'm itching to direct... but where?
Fri, 23 Jan 2004, 07:35 amHi Bec-
If you can make it "up the hill" (yes, buses go there), try the Darlington Theatre Players.
A long-standing amateur theatre company known for producing quality plays and musicals, the DTP are based at the modern and well-equipped Marloo Theatre in Greenmount. With a wide membership and many skilled support people available, we always welcome new talent.
We have this year's program finalised, but are open to all possibilities and invite you and any other directors interested to contact us direct (see the link on this site) to discuss potential future opportunities. Actors and technicians also invited to check out this great club!
Good luck -
