Need help for MONOLOGUE!

Hello.
I'm Kay and a year 12 student doing Drama Studies (TEE Drama). At the end of this year I must present two solo performances - 1 is a own script and the other 1 is scripted piece from a play (not musical, not movie, not from a book of monolgues but a published and scripted play).
Because for my own script I am doing a piece as Jane Austen, my costume is that of formal attire of about 1800. (Basically like the costumes you will see in Pride and Prejudice, Emma or Sense and Senseability.)
What I need help with though is finding the scripted piece. What I ask is if anyone knows of a play that I could get a monolgue from to suit the costume. Perferably comical as my piece is serious.
I was thinking along the lines of a modern day bride or bridesmaid. But I have a very open mind.
Please help!

Hi Kay

I think it's great that you are thinking about your choice of monologue, now , but I tend to think you might be going about it the wrong way.to choose a monologue to suit your costume is fraught with difficulties and ultimately may not suit your abilities.

I would be worried about your choice of costume. I am sure that the Drama Examiners would be more than happy for you to 'represent' the era of your period piece with a fan or something such as, they won't mark you up or down for having a period costume. However, they will mark you down if your choice of clothing hinders your improvisation or your ability to move. You still have an impro and a monologue and an interview to get through. There is no place for you to change and also no time for you to do so.

Ultimately Kay it is your choice, and if you wish to wear that period piece then good luck to you. I just feel that maybe you should go for more comfortable, practical and useful clothing. If in your interview the examiners ask you why you chose that monologue and you say its because I could do it in this costume, I doubt that they will be impressed.

For what it's worth, I advise my students to wear rehearsal blacks and to simply represent the era . They can then slip into any other character or period without feeling uncomfortable and they are not wasting time and stressing about costume changes.
