Question in relation to getting representation (in Perth that is).
I have only been acting (in community theatre) for the last 2 years (and done 7 productions so far) and want to get representation. I have done before (but I would say this company focussed mainly on modelling rather than acting) and unfortunately missed out on being involved in a couple ads (due to receiving the message too late!!).
Do you think it's worth a shot my contacting say Frog or Actors Management even though my repertoire is limited? I have had no formal training (just a few workshops) so my experience is really just learning from each production I've done.
I suppose, most of the replies to this will be, "just do it, you haven't anything to lose". But then, maybe it's a fear of rejection that holds me back......

I try to refrain from getting involved in topics like this mainly because I am personally involved in Actors Plus, soon to change its name to Actors Now (as it is linking up with Now Management in Sydney and Melbourne), but I do feel I have to respond to this thread.
Actors Plus began when ACE closed it's doors - Jemma International Modelling Agency was approached to take on ACE's books - as Frog and Management would not have been able to take on all the actors that would be 'let go'. Jemma did this and I believe has steadily and ably found its feet. You are quite correct that there were difficulties with payments to actors - on more than one occasion it was a production company's fault - but on others I believe it was poor accounting by a particular business partner who was involved in the business at the time, that business is now defunct.
Actors Plus was sold about 6 months ago to a national company who have a resident accountant and the accountant pays the actors regularly and reliably.
For my two cents worth - casting consultants, theatre companies and production companies approach all three of these agencies for the same job, all three agencies are asked to put forward people, after that the client decides who they want to audition and then well....it's really up to what they are looking for in your audition.
So if I was looking for an agent, I would call all three, I would audition for all three and then I would go for whomever you felt most comfortable with and who you think would work the hardest for you. And then I would stick with them; agentÂ’s value loyalty and I believe it pays off.
