Hi my name is Kim. I want to start acting and I am thinking of joining the Sydney Talent Company in Quakers Hill, Sydney. Would that be the right thing to do. I am keen on acting, singing and dancing and I want to be a performer. I am turning 13 now am I to late to start acting? I heared that actors need a acting resume (or otherwise known as CV) in auditions if I go to this Talent Company will they give me some kind of form I need to fill out? If I am to have an acting resume would the Rock Eisteddford be allowed to be included because it does require a bit of drama.
If anyone can help I will appreciate it. I need to know the first step to getting into acting. Thank you !

Hi Kim,

relax. Acting is the one career you can start at any age and do for an entire lifetime. You are not too young to start and certainly not too old!

Any experience you have had on stage is valuable. You may have been singing, but when singing you are still performing. The experience gave you an idea of what constant rehearsals are like, what it is to be up on stage in front of an audience, scheduling acts, production, back stage, a whole heap of things.

All the things you want to do are wonderful, and all are needed at some stage. Singing and dancing classes are an excellent idea. Probably the old faithfuls, tap and jazz would be best. Also, look for amateur companies nearby that have child members or put on childrens' performances, there are many about.

Other things that can help are to read plays, practice remembering poems and such. Get involved in high school performances. Call television stations and let them know you are interested in acting. Such shows as Home and Away quite often take people who are new to acting, because you have the 'look' they are wanting, but remember things like that are a long shot. Its better to concentrate on the classes that build up skill.

Hope this is helpful.
