Serious news
Thu, 18 Nov 1999, 11:34 amI heard some very sad and serious news recently from a local theatre company.
I don't think it is my position to post it here, particularly as i understand the company concerned have delayed making the information public so as not to upset some members.
But i wish they'd hurry up and do so! I'm sure they'd garner a great deal of support from visitors to this site.
So... *anonymous people* are you able to tell us any news as yet?
Cheers
Grant

I do not think it untoward to inform people that Blak Yak Theatre dodged a bullet this week. Blak Yak Theatre are the resident theatre group in the City of Gosnells Don Russell Performing Arts Centre in Thornlie. Recently, the Gosnells City Council transferred management of the Centre to an independent contracter, Starlight Theatre Lighting Management. Due to an unfortunate series of misunderstandings and miscommunications, Starlight Theatre Lighting Management asked Blak Yak to vacate the Don Russelm Performing Arts Centre.
I did not want to make any blanket statements about the situation until an opportunity for negotiation had been used. This is the same reason why I did not want to panic our members, without first trying to reach an agreement with Starlight Theatre Lighting Management.
I am happy to report that a meeting was held, and despite concerns being expressed on both sides, an amicable agreement was reached. For the time being, Blak Yak Theatre will continue to operate in the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Grant for his help and to thank everyone else who expressed their concern and support.
Jarrod Buttery,
Presieent,
Blak Yak Theatre.
