Sadly another stalwart of Perth's community theatre has left us for a better role.

Joe McCabe passed away suddenly from an aneurism Tuesday morning 10/07/2012.

Joe was a prolific poster to this site and truly one of the greatest sources of knowledge regarding anything to do with theatre. One of true gentlemen of community theatre, he has been a guide and mentor for many and with long time friend Hywell Williams, founded Phoenix Theatre in Hamilton Hill.

It was said in song "If there's a rock & roll heaven - you know they have a hell of a band..." The same must surely be true of a Community Theatre Heaven, ....Take a bow my friend, the curtain has been called.

Joe is survived by his son Sean and his life-partner Joyce and I am sure that the theatre community of Perth will join me in sending them our sincerest condolences.

Confirmation that it was our Joe, is sad news indeed. Only recently he took the time (as he always did,) to share his knowledge of all things theatre with this theatre person who still has so much to learn. More than his advice though, I'll miss Joe's 'Geordie' humour. It was he, who without my asking, took the time to contact a publishing house in England on my behalf. Now he's up in the stalls, no doubt sitting alongside Mr Williams. A sudden image of the old boys from the Muppets springs to mind, with Mr Williams telling me it's time to lift me game, with Joe of course nodding in agreeance. As a thankyou to both, I shall do my utmost to do so.
