Sadly another stalwart of Perth's community theatre has left us for a better role.

Joe McCabe passed away suddenly from an aneurism Tuesday morning 10/07/2012.

Joe was a prolific poster to this site and truly one of the greatest sources of knowledge regarding anything to do with theatre. One of true gentlemen of community theatre, he has been a guide and mentor for many and with long time friend Hywell Williams, founded Phoenix Theatre in Hamilton Hill.

It was said in song "If there's a rock & roll heaven - you know they have a hell of a band..." The same must surely be true of a Community Theatre Heaven, ....Take a bow my friend, the curtain has been called.

Joe is survived by his son Sean and his life-partner Joyce and I am sure that the theatre community of Perth will join me in sending them our sincerest condolences.

I had heard rumours, but no

I had heard rumours, but no confirmation that it was our Joe that had passed away. Sad news indeed. www.meltheco.org.au

Why aye man!

Confirmation that it was our Joe, is sad news indeed. Only recently he took the time (as he always did,) to share his knowledge of all things theatre with this theatre person who still has so much to learn. More than his advice though, I'll miss Joe's 'Geordie' humour. It was he, who without my asking, took the time to contact a publishing house in England on my behalf. Now he's up in the stalls, no doubt sitting alongside Mr Williams. A sudden image of the old boys from the Muppets springs to mind, with Mr Williams telling me it's time to lift me game, with Joe of course nodding in agreeance. As a thankyou to both, I shall do my utmost to do so.

Goodbye

While not living in the West I have had a great number of exchanges both publicly and privately with Joe. While we didn't always agree our discussions have always been civil and good humoured. I feel sad that I never met him face to face and had a chance for long chat and a couple of sherberts. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au www.moorebooks.net.au

Memorial Link

The link at the end of my previous posting should now be functional.

Apologies to all that have been unable to open it.

This will lead you directly to a "Legacy" Guest book opened by Joyce and Sean where your messages can be left.

Graeme.

Farewell Joe

Deepest sympathy to Joe's family and friends, on the sad passing of our friend Joe. This year we lost our two founding members; Joe McCabe and Hywel Williams of Phoenix Theatre, two great gentlemen who had a dream of starting an amateur Theatre group in Cockburn. Farewell Joe from Piera West and the Phoenix Theatre Committee. Piera xxx

Goodbye Joe

Goodbye our dear friend. Fond memories of the times we shared together at The Old Mill. Our moments together, with Joyce at your side, will always be remembered with much happiness. Robert and Susan Vincent

So long, Joe. Deepest

So long, Joe. Deepest condolences to family and friends. I have fond memories of Joe from a couple of shows at Old Mill, and I truly enjoyed absorbing all he had to teach about stagecraft and theatrical lore. Trevor Preston

Valete

I will long remember the fateful Saturday morning when Joe and Hywel sat me down with a coffee and suggested I step up as chaiman of the new improved Phoenix Theatre. Joe's self-deprecating joke was "at the third stroke..." Hard to believe they have now both gone. Ssstinger>>>
