Come have a drink with Don's Party
Thu, 2 June 2011, 06:36 pmAfter a very long hiatus, the bar at Melville theatre will be open for the season of Don's Party.
It has been over 12 months since we were able to sell a drink. In fact, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was the last show at which we opened the bar.
Why?
The department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor informed us in 2010 that we would no longer be able to obtain Occasional Licenses to operate our bar, as we had for the last 20+ years. As far as I understand, the regulations haven't changed, but the department's interpretation of the Occasional License has. As we were applying for more than the allowable number of licences in a 12 month period, we were asked to apply for a permanent licence.
What follows is a long, painful and drawn out process that would make for a fine one act play. I have a working title of The Killjoy Division. :)
Long story short - our licence application has now been approved, the annual fee has been paid, and the paperwork will be in our mailbox early next week.
So help us recoup the ridiculous amount of money this process has cost, and come have a drink at our production of Don's Party.
Let's face it, Don's Party without a drink would be downright unAustralian.
