I have been working on the polling for the upcoming election and today visited a care facility in Orelia and who should be there but Beryl Silvester. For those of us who have been around Community Theatre in Perth for a long time you will remember her well. She was a great supporter of the ITA and served on their committee for a number of years. One of Beryl's favourite jobs was to look after the raffle sales at the Drama Festival. Beryl looked fantastic, she still had her beautiful smile and happy personality but regretfully she is now suffering from dementia/alzheimers. She is at Orelia waiting for a permanent placement in an aged care facility. Beryl could not remember me, but she knows that theatre was part of her life. To what extent she can't remember. To those who knew her , I am sure you will be saddened to hear this news, to those who read this and didn't know her, Beryl was and still is a great lady of the local theatre scene. Together with her late husband she was a great supporter of youth theatre and in later years, while living at Swan Cottage Homes, she would organise concert parties there. Beryl loved attending community theatre productions and always had something positive to say about every production she saw. I gave her a hug, she loved it! Didn't know who I was, but who cares! I have asked her son to let me know when she is in a permanent facility and will post her location on this site. Love you Beryl! 87 years young!!!!

Sad to hear it

Had the pleasure to drive Beryl to the Finleys a couple of years back. She was very alert and it was a pleasure to chauffeur her for the evening. Very sad to hear of her decline.

Thankyou Geoff, I had

Thankyou Geoff, I had tried to see her at Swan Cottages a couple of weeks ago and wondered what had happened to her when I was told she wasn't there anymore. I saw her at Garrick last year and she didn't remember who I was or Kimberley Shaw, we suspected then that things weren't right. Cheers Robert

Beryl Silvester

Thanks Geoff, I have often thought of Beryl and wondered how she is and now I know. It is great to know she is still going strong physically. She was a faithful member of Harbour Theatre for a number of years, alway arriving with a well dressed, charming man on her arm. Who could resist her? On'ya Beryl! Written by Sidsel

Beryl

Thanks Geoff. I too have missed Beryl over the last few years and the little chats we had and often wondered about her. Beryl, you may remember less and less about community theatre as time goes by, but community theatre will always remember you. Ray
