I have been working on the polling for the upcoming election and today visited a care facility in Orelia and who should be there but Beryl Silvester. For those of us who have been around Community Theatre in Perth for a long time you will remember her well. She was a great supporter of the ITA and served on their committee for a number of years. One of Beryl's favourite jobs was to look after the raffle sales at the Drama Festival. Beryl looked fantastic, she still had her beautiful smile and happy personality but regretfully she is now suffering from dementia/alzheimers. She is at Orelia waiting for a permanent placement in an aged care facility. Beryl could not remember me, but she knows that theatre was part of her life. To what extent she can't remember. To those who knew her , I am sure you will be saddened to hear this news, to those who read this and didn't know her, Beryl was and still is a great lady of the local theatre scene. Together with her late husband she was a great supporter of youth theatre and in later years, while living at Swan Cottage Homes, she would organise concert parties there. Beryl loved attending community theatre productions and always had something positive to say about every production she saw. I gave her a hug, she loved it! Didn't know who I was, but who cares! I have asked her son to let me know when she is in a permanent facility and will post her location on this site. Love you Beryl! 87 years young!!!!
