Offering an invite and a ticket (or two) is especially a good idea. Who doesn't enjoy a freebie? And maybe them attending the play will spark some more interest in writing about it. I also agree that there's a limit to how much you can harass a writer. I do think that one phone call is fine, but anything more than that and you can bet the writer won't be impressed. There really is way too much to be written about, and the number one thing an arts editor/writer will be doing (other than writing of course) is saying no.
