It is with deep sadness I write to inform all that George Dickinson passed away early this morning. George died at Bethesda Hospice (WA), he fell victim to and was highly medicated for brain cancer.

Although George hasn't trod the boards for several years, so many of us will remember George - an exceptional actor, an outstanding director, three times winner of the ITA Finley Award for Best Production with Extremeties (Garrick 1987), The Dresser (Marloo 1988), Agnes of God (Garrick 1990).

Sympathies to George's partner - Murray, Family, Norma and close friends.
Funeral/Service is yet to be announced (I will post this news as it comes to hand).

Until I recently learnt about George's condition, I was hoping to oneday convince George to produce another play at the Garrick - a comeback!! ... well - he's upstairs directing everyone there now.

George Dickinson was well known throughout WA theatres, having performed and directed at a lot of them including Garrick, Marloo, Wanneroo and more. I remember one of my first auditions was for one of his plays and it felt like the whole of Perth was there...everyone wanted to be in his show. To this day, I don't think I've seen another audition that has been so highly attended.  Will miss you George, but won't be forgotten.

If you have a fond moment of George please submit your story to this thread.

my moments with George

Here here Bruce... I am in complete agreeance with you. I mentioned briefly earlier in this post about going to an audition and how it felt as if all of Perth was there... Like I said, I thought - "what on earth am I doing here", but I stuck it out... and both George and Norma made a point of coming up to me saying the role was mine until Priscilla walked in at the end of the day to audition... I was such a young gal then of 17... against all those many auditionees, that was really wonderful to know. Then George recommended me for a role at Wanneroo in "Veronica's Room" with Tom Brandwood directing... and I took that intense and amazing role... and worked opposite George on stage...(eh Conrad! - "I'm NOT Veronica, My name is Susan Kerner, my id is in my bag downstairs"). Having worked with Norma Standing in so many shows over the years, I feel like George has directed me in a show, however not so... two elite Directors of Perth's time!! I have always had a soft spot for George, his friendship, faith, belief and trust in me meant the world... Will miss you George, but you will never be forgotten here... Melz
