Male actors required!

Tue, 30 Jan 2007, 06:08 pmOK... so you want "plays for men"...
Did you try out for "The Judas Kiss" at Playlovers last year? That was a winner!!...
Or perhaps "Last of The Red Hot Lovers" would be more your thing..... That was at Northam.....
Too far afield? Here's an idea, do as Norma suggested. Select some manuscripts, approach some of the companies around the metropolitan area and submit them, then sit back and watch just how many guys DON'T show up for the auditions.
For some reason, male actors (of any age group) are a rare commodity in Perth, and those that are willing to get on stage are busy all year round.
As an adjudicator for the Finley Awards, I have seen and will see almost all the shows entered during 2006 and 2007 and I have often seen the same male actors in several different productions, from Pinjarra to Roleystone and all points in between.
A few tend to stay with one company, but the majority "shop hop" from club to club.
Why? Because they know that they can almost be guaranteed a part, simply because they showed up. Sad, but true. I do not mean that Directors accept any odd-bod that comes along, but having sat through the audition process with my Director partner on several occasions, it often comes down to choosing the guys that are there at the time, rather than doing the "ring around" and hoping that Fred Bloggs isn't already cast elsewhere.
If you want to act... get out amongst it and strut your stuff....You might just pick up a lead role!!!
