Brush Up Your Shakespeare!
Tuesday 25 October 2011
MOLLY to PORTAL:
(Hi, I'm not actually the "marketing publicist" but my friend is in the show and I am trying to publicise it so I assume that is the appropriate role in this circumstance.)
The UWA School of Music is hosting "an informative and entertaining journey, exploring Shakespeare's songs as set by composers from Thomas Morley to Leonard Bernstein.
"In this production, we are taken on a dramatic journey through Shakespear-inspired music of the last 400 years.
"Scenes are taken from Shakespeare's plays Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Othello, Cymbeline, and The Twelfth Night offering the ground to explore the songs within their dramatic contexts.
"Co-created and directed by Jane Davidson and Paige Newmark (Shakespear WA)."
[Used without permission from the Facebook invitation!]
The production, according to my friend, Alex, will involve some opera, rap and ballads. Alex is just one of a cast of brilliantly talented performers (I assume. I will be checking them out tonight, so I hope they're good!)and this is an opportunity to see them inexpensively before they get famous and demand exorbitant ticket prices for each performance! The School of Music students do have to support themselves to a certain extent and this is a chance for the community to fund talent and student resources while enjoying a quality show. If you are interested in coming along the details are below. It is short notice (I have been writing an Education essay and planning for a History essay all day, sorry) but I really encourage you to make the effort of joining the culturati!
The show is being held in the Callaway Music Auditorium
Tonight, Tuesday, 25th October 2011
