(KIRSTY is packing clothes and toiletries into a couple of canvas bags in her bedroom. She is crying angrily and stops to wipe the tears, that are affecting her sight, off her face. There is a knock on the door. She starts, takes a deep breath then answers it. PETER is standing in the doorway with a huge grin on his face, holding a slip of paper.) KIRSTY What's this? PETER Have a look. KIRSTY (She takes the paper and reads it.) It's a cheque for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. PETER It is. KIRSTY How? PETER That's what the pot was. KIRSTY I see. PETER Why aren't you happy? KIRSTY I am. I'm very excited. PETER Good. KIRSTY You won. PETER I did. KIRSTY I told you not to keep trying. I said you'd never win. PETER You did. KIRSTY You went behind my back and did it anyway and now we have three quarters of a million dollars. PETER We do. KIRSTY Wow. Well done, my love. PETER Aren't we going to celebrate. KIRSTY Of course, we are. You go and have a shower and I'll go and put on something nice. PETER You don't want to help me shower. KIRSTY Good try, I've already showered today. PETER Damn you. KIRSTY Off you go. (Peter notices the canvas bag but shrugs then exits. Kirsty rushes over to a desk, table or anything that can contain paperwork and pulls out a small pile of paper.) KIRSTY (Leafing through papers.) Overdue electricity. Rent. Speeding fine. Overdue water. Overdue gas. (Kirsty pockets the bills and the cheque and returns to the bed where she hurriedly finishes packing and then goes to leave with her canvas bags. She pauses.) KIRSTY (Calling into bathroom.) I love you, Peter! PETER (From offstage.) I love you, too! (Kirsty resists crying and exits. A moment later Peter answers with a towel around his waste, toweling his hair. He looks around for Kirsty. He panics and looks for the cheque. He collapses onto the bed, desolate.) PETER F*** THE END
